The Largest Nature Aquarium Project in History
In May, 2013, one Nature Aquarium project at the Lisbon Oceanarium (Oceanario
de Lisboa) was singed off. It is about the world's largest aquarium in history,
produced by Takashi Amano. The actual size of the tank is 40m! It is hard to
imagine but definitely unprecedented project ever, which is also a challenge
for Amano himself. The offer came in from the Lisbon Oceanarium to create
Amano's 40m Nature Aquarium as a main renovated aquarium to exhibit, opening in
spring 2015. Although the Lisbon Oceanarium vies to have one of the top-class
size aquariums in Europe, it is their first time to show a planted aquarium.
The director, Mr. Joan Falcato has been a huge fan of Amano since he saw
"Glass no Naka no Daishizen", the Amano's representative book, and it was his
dream come true to collaborate with Amano. Mr. Falcato is passionately eager to
blend art and environment of tropical freshwater tank and furthermore, convey
the Japanese culture. With rising awareness of environmental issues, Nature
Aquarium, recreating nature, attracts a lot more attention in Europe year by year.
And this is how the project is born. Toward the grand opening after renovation
in spring 2015, the largest project in history has begun!
