In spite of an extra time (which explains late publication of these results), one of the members of our jury (Takashi Amano) did not send us his notation and comments for all tanks. This explains that, so that all tanks are processed the same way, the final ranking has been made out of the two other jury members’ notations only (Oliver Knott and Norbert Sabat). Nevertheless, Mister Amano’s comments will be published anyway. TANK N°22Aquascaper : Hideki
COMMENTS : O. Knott : The first impression of this layout was : WOW ! The deep green and light red colours of the plants in front of the dark background is very impressive. A perfect shape of the plants with the right fish inside make this layout for me to one of my favourite. The best example how make a wonderful layout out of a small aquarium. My winner of this category. N. Sabat : A beautiful and healthy layout. I like the big bushes with only one species on both sides and the color mix (red/orange mixed with green). Plants conditions is very good (colors and shapes), but one can notice deficiency symptoms on Microsorum and Pogostenom. Although this tank is small, the aquascaper has created an good-looking underwater garden. Bardzo ładny i zdrowy layout - podobają mi się duże skupiska jednego gatunku roślin po obu stronach oraz mieszanka czerwieni/pomarańczy z zielenią. Bardzo dobra kondycja roślin (wybarwienie i kształt) jednak widać chyba niewielkie braki u microzorium i pogostemon. Mimo niewielkiego litrażu udało się uzyskać miły dla oka podwodny ogród. T. COMMENTS : O. Knott : A real small eye catcher. Special aquarium size with a very nice set up. The composition with the rocks and the wood was successful. The background effect is very impressive. Good work ! N. Sabat : This is a fresh and original layout. I like stones and rocks when they’re clearly displayed. Nevertheless, I think Microsorum and Bolbitis are too big for this tank. Dość oryginalny i świeży layout. Podoba mi się wyraziste wyeksponowanie kamieni i skał jednak wydaje mi się, że w dłuższej perspektywie microzorium oraz bolbitis są za duże do tego zbiornika. T. COMMENTS : O. Knott : A really nice set up, especially when I saw how small it was. The small roots fit in very good in the layout. In my eye the Hemianthus was a little bit to high at the left side. N. Sabat : Space arrangement is great. The layout suits well a tank this size. Organization has been thought carefully and decorations are clearly visible (what I don’t like is the Limnophila). Plants condition is good but Rotala rotundfolia, Didiplis and Proserpinaca leaves are not properly colored. Bardzo ładnie zagospodarowana przestrzeń - jak na zbiornik tych rozmiarów jest to dobry layout. Kompozycja jest przemyślana a elementy dekoracyjne dobrze widoczne i zaakcentowane roślinnością (nie podoba mi się jedynie limnophila). Kondycja roślin jest dobra lecz rotala rotundifolia, didiplis i palustris nie mają prawidłowo wybarwionych liści. T. Amano : The plant health condition looks nice. And use of driftwood was very effective. It would have been a better layout if more variation of plants are used in this layout. TANK N°28Aquascaper : Run
COMMENTS : O. Knott : A wild layout ! But lovely. It was very special but what I really like was the strong red stems between the dark green plants. Well done. N. Sabat : A beautiful layout, with a lot of details but I think the special light makes this tank look smaller than it is actually (a dark line in the upper part of the picture restrains the layout). Rotala in front should be more carefully arranged. Ładna kompozycja z wieloma detalami ale niestety moim zdaniem sposób podświetlenia tła przy fotografii sprawia że kompozycja sporo straciła na odbiorze (ciemniejsza górna krawędź zamyka kompozycję od góry i przez to ją pomniejsza). Rotala na tylnim planie wymaga lepszego uformowania. T. Amano : missing comment TANK N°25Aquascaper : Mellonman
COMMENTS : O. Knott : A nice small set up who remind me to a holiday island. I would try keep the plants in front of the nice stones smaller and also the Vesicularia on the left side. N. Sabat : Rotala in front left spoils the entire layout, which is nevertheless interesting. I like the stones arrangement and the way they are in harmony with plants. Rotala na pierwszym planie psuje całą kompozycję, która sama w sobie jest dość ciekawa. Podoba mi się ustawienie skał po prawej stronie i wkomponowanie ich w zieleń. T. COMMENTS : O. Knott : The condition of the plant are nice. A extra point for the technical planting of the Cladophora. The left side of the set up is a little bit to dark for me. N. Sabat : I like the open space in this tank and the way the driftwood seems to come out of a green plants wall. I don’t like Myriophyllum and Didiplis diandra, the condition of which doesn’t seem good. W zbiorniku podoba mi się pusta przestrzeń i fragment korzenia wyłaniający się ze ściany zieleni. Nie podoba mi się myriophillum oraz didiplis diandra, które nie są w zbyt dobrej kondycji. T. Amano : It is not clear the picture shows front or side of the aquarium layout. Left side is too heavy. TANK N°6Aquascaper : Olileon
COMMENTS : O. Knott : The plants are in very good condition. A nice river bed and contrasting plants colours. I miss a little bit the deep of the layouts. N. Sabat : I really don’t like Riccia and Eleocharis mix on the left side. It looks like Riccia has been put there only a few days before the picture was shot. The sans part is too far right, which breaks the layout balanced. In my opinion, it would be better if the sand beach was just beneath the moss clump on the driftwood. Extra points for plants condition. Bardzo razi mnie połączenie riccia i eleocharis po lewej stronie - nie wygląda to dość dobrze (riccia wygląda jakby ułożono ją kilka dni przed zdjęciem). Piaskowy przesmyk jest umiejscowiony zbyt na prawo, przez co zaburzony został punkt centralny kompozycji. Moim zdaniem lepiej wyglądałoby to gdyby plaża znajdowała się tuż pod kępą mchu na korzeniu. Plus za dobrą kondycję roślin. T. Amano : The choice of background plants is not good. (Leaves of plants is too big for this layout.) Sand in the foreground is not good in this layout. COMMENTS : O. Knott : Beside the Anubia the plants are in a good condition. The stem plants on the right side looking very well with their soft colours N. Sabat : I don’t like this layout wery much. There is no middle plantation - evolution from foreground plants towards high plants is too sudden. Medium siez plants would be required. Planting high Cryptocorynes in the foreground is a wrong decision. It would look better if lower part of the leaves were hidden by a piece of stone or driftwood. The Anubia is too eye-catching, which lowers the aesthetical evaluation of the tank. Nie podoba mi się ta kompozycja. W część środkowej brakuje właściwie środkowego planu - przeskok z niskich roślin do wysokich jest zbyt ostry, brakuje mi uformowania większych kęp drobnolistnych roślin w tym miejscu. Również umiejscowienie dużych kryptokoryn na pierwszym planie wydaje się niefortunne (lepiej by to wyglądało jakby dolne części liści zostały czymś przysłonięte np. korzeniem, kamieniem). W oczy rzuca się silnie zagoniony anubias co znacząco obniża walory estetyczne zbiornika. T. Amano : The picture was over exposure. The water thermometer should have been removed. Cryptocoryne look nice. Background plant should have been planted densely. TANK N°13Aquascaper : Hxhkirua666
COMMENTS : O. Knott : The rocks in this layout are very nice also the wave effect on the surface. For me there are little bit to much different plants who make the layout to restless. N. Sabat : This layout is very nice and makes the tank look larger than it is. Plants selection is good, but they are not fully grown up, as can be seen on foreground and middle part. Ten layout jest bardzo sympatyczny i dość znacząco powiększa optycznie zbiornik. Dobór roślin jest dobry jednak można zauważyć, że całość nie rozrosła się jeszcze tak jak powinna (widać to szczególnie na pierwszym i średnim planie). T. COMMENTS : O. Knott : Very unique. I gave not so many points for plant health because the moos need more time for growing. But for the layout concept and the special light effect you earn some more points from me. N. Sabat : This layout is obviously very young (I would say two weeks). It is then hard to judge. Plants have not spread yet (moss and Eleocharis). The design of this tank is not bad but I don’t really like the sand beach (too much gravel) and the shoot itself, although I guess it is supposed to be artistic. The picture hides more than it shows, which makes the notation drop. Niestety widać że jest to bardzo świeży layout mający na oko 2tygodnie więc trudno poddać go ocenie. Rośliny nie są rozrośnięte (zarówno mech jak i eleocharis). Koncepcja zbiornika jest dobra jednak nie podoba mi się duża granulacja podłoża na plaży oraz sama fotografia mimo iż pewnie w zamyśle autora miała być artystyczna więcej ukrywa niż pokazuje co jeszcze bardziej pogarsza ocenę. T. Amano : The stone shape looks nice, but number of plants is too few, and use of white sand is not good. TANK N°18Aquascaper : Aquarnould
COMMENTS : O. Knott : The selected roots are very nice but the layout is too mixed up. Try to keep the Vesicularia more in a shape and maybe a smaller foreground plant would be better for this layout. N. Sabat : I like the qhape of the driftwood and the way it has been placed (very clearly and in accordance with tank size). Plants selection and arrangement are good, but their condition is not (it can be seen on all plants). The tank could be improved but it requires some work ;) Podoba mi się kształt i umiejscowienie korzenia - jest bardzo wyrazisty i pasuje do tej wielkości zbiornika. Dobór roślin i ich umiejscowienie jest dobre jednak ich kondycja nie jest najlepsza (w zasadzie widać to po wszystkich roślinach). Zbiornik jest rozwojowy jednak wymaga więcej pracy ;). T. COMMENTS : O. Knott : Good condition of the plants, really impressive the red Bacoba. The region with the Vesicularia and the Microsorum is a little bit to dark. But as well a nice layout. N. Sabat : This layout is chaotic : plants that should be on different levels are mixed. No clear intention of the aquascaper can be seen. I would advise to get rid of large leaves plants (Alternanthera) for a tank this size on middle ground. Unfortunately, some plants condition is not perfect and algae can be seen, which makes the notation drop. W kompozycji panuje chaos - rośliny różnych planów są między sobą pomieszane przez co nie widać tu żadnej koncepcji/ zamysłu autora. Radziłbym zrezygnować z gatunków o dużych liściach (alternathera) w małym zbiorniku - a na pewno nie sadziłbym jej w środkowym planie. Niestety widać spore problemy z kondycją niektórych gatunków oraz glony a to niestety źle wpływa na ocenę. T. Amano : Bacopa sp. look nice. This layout has a fantasic atmosphere. But the background plants on the right side do not look nice. TANK N°32Aquascaper : Touline
COMMENTS : O. Knott : I miss at this layout more decoration because the plant position let miss them really. With a easy foreground plant I think the set up will be look better. N. Sabat : This tank being very young, it is difficult to judge. Honestly, it looks as if it had been set up three or four days before the picture was shot. Foreground and middle ground do not exist and this huge empty space in the middle makes the notation drop. There are neither hardscape nor design. Trudno coś ocenić gdyż zbiornik jest bardzo świeży i prawdę mówiąc wygląda jakby został założony 3-4dni przed zrobieniem fotki. Całkowicie brakuje średniego i niskiego planu a duża pustka w centrum wpływa negatywnie na odbiór zbiornika. Brakuje tu zarówno hardscapu jak i ogólnego zamysłu kompozycyjnego T. Amano : The plants have not fully grown yet. The plant arrangement should been considered carefully.
